For the last three years, Enova has conducted a thematic focus on increased production of biogas in Norway. Support offerings will now be continued for another three years.

Enova has several programs that can support the use of biogas to generate heat and electricity. The goal is to develop a market for the production and sale of biogas on an industrial scale, and contribute to technological development for production of biogas.

“The market for biogas is immature, and have limited access to this fuel. Enova will continue to support the biogas production in order to strengthen the supply side, thereby developing a functioning market for biogas,” says Helle H. Grønli, area manager for renewable heat in Enova.

Enova provides support to individuals and businesses that focus on energy efficiency and conversion to renewable energy sources.

The program, which will now be continued, is aimed at registered companies that supply biogas to the Norwegian energy market. It provides support for up to 30 percent of approved costs. Support is provided as an investment for the construction of biogas production.

“Biogas is an exciting new fuel produced from waste. Biogas has the same applications as natural gas, and will reduce overall emissions of greenhouse gases,” says Grønli.

Installations covered by the program are those that produce biogas from biological waste, energy crops or timber, and supplying gas to external customers.

Deadline for application is 30 March and 28 September in 2012.
