DONG Energy has acquired the right to further develop the offshore wind project Borkum Riffgrund West 1 from Energiekontor AG for approx. EUR 30 mio.

The procurement of the project is a significant step in DONG Energy’s effort to gain a stronger foothold in the growing German offshore wind sector.

“A robust pipeline of projects in key offshore wind markets is essential for DONG Energy’s ambition to maintain our position as the leading player in the offshore wind industry,” says Anders Eldrup, CEO of DONG Energy.

As of today, DONG Energy has offshore projects under development in UK, Germany and the Netherlands.

Should DONG Energy decide to go ahead and establish the wind farm, it could potentially consist of up to 80 turbines with a total capacity of up to 400 MW. The project is located in the German part of the North Sea only 9 kilometres from DONG Energy’s existing German offshore wind project Borkum Riffgrund 1, which is expected to generate first power in 2014.

The information provided in this announcement does not change DONG Energy's previous financial guidance for the 2011 financial year or the announced expected investment level.
