Intertek

Intertek has acquired Metoc plc , a provider of engineering and environmental consultancy services to the renewable energy infrastructure sector worldwide.

Metoc employs around 80 people in the UK across sites in Hampshire, Cardiff and Dundee. The acquisition will bring Intertek's network of experts for the renewable industry to around 200 specialists across the globe.

Metoc provides consultancy and advisory services to companies at the 'concept', stages of construction and operational projects for wind, wave, oil, gas, solar and hydro-electric schemes. It provides expert assessments of the feasibility and impact of infrastructure projects in terms of their design, interconnectivity and environmental impact. This includes advisory work on offshore infrastructure and interconnectors, onshore and offshore environmental and safety impact assessments, subsea, land and waterway modelling, site surveys and related engineering consultancy work.

Intertek is at the forefront of advanced technologies in testing, inspection and certification service to the renewable industry. The acquisition of Metoc will position Intertek's involvement in renewable energy projects at an early stage of their development. Intertek-Metoc will also be well placed to serve manufacturing industries by providing services such as testing, inspection and certification.

Stefan Butz, Executive Vice President of Intertek's Industrial services Division, explained, 'Metoc brings us an excellent set of new advisory capabilities in various fast-growing renewable energy segments. By tying our manufacturing testing, inspection and certification expertise with their early stage offshore consulting services we will be able to support Intertek-Metoc clients throughout the whole renewable infrastructure supply chain - a service that is not currently available in the market today.'

Kevin Deming, Metoc CEO, added, 'Metoc had grown significantly over the last few years and had reached a size where we needed a global platform to continue to better serve and expand our customer base. We are delighted to join our expertise with Intertek's and meet customer demand for value-added services.
