The contract for removing and recycling the B-11 compressor platform on the Norpipe gas line in the North Sea has been awarded to AF Group by Statoil on behalf of operator Gassco.

Covering planning, engineering, removal and recycling of the whole platform, the job exercises an option in the contract for removing the H-7 riser platform won by the same contractor in 2011.

The value of the new contract is approx. NOK 500 million exclusive VAT. Work will start in 2012, and is due to be completed by the end of 2016.

Built in the 1970s as part of the Norpipe transport system, the B-11 and H-7 platforms both stand in the German sector of the North Sea.

They carried compressors which boosted pressure in the line in order to drive more gas through to the receiving terminal at Emden on the German coast.
