Aberdeen will be welcoming artificial lift experts from across Europe at this year’s European Artificial Lift Forum (EuALF). Region Vice President and Managing Director of Apache North Sea, Mr Jim House, will take the role of keynote speaker at the 2012 forum.

The EuALF, organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), takes place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on February 22 and 23. The event will give delegates the chance to discuss equipment and software developments in the industry and see the cutting edge tools, technologies and services being adopted in the sector.

Mr House has significant experience in petroleum engineering and serves on the Board and Council of Oil & Gas UK. He will discuss the ways in which artificial lifting is vital to extend asset life and maximise production, along with recent developments which are making an impact on the future of the industry.

Cledwyn Hughes, EuALF conference chairman and senior production technologist at Apache North Sea said: “The implementation of artificial lift is essential to maximise the economic benefit of every well. The EuALF in February will focus on the North Sea; however, the programme includes papers from other regions to encourage the sharing of best practice in the industry.

“Engineers in operating companies and services providers alike can look forward to hearing and discussing excellent technical papers and case studies, as well as seeing the latest technologies in the largest ever exhibition. There is something for everyone at this year’s forum.”

The two day event will also see presentations, discussions on case studies and program updates from ConocoPhillips, Chevron, Schlumberger, Shell and Marathon Oil. A range of areas specific to artificial lift will be covered including electrical submersible pump systems, gas lift and jet pump technology.

A pre-conference course will also be held on February 21 looking at selection, operation, design and optimisation of artificial lift systems. This is aimed towards production and reservoir engineers and operations staff who are involved in artificial lift operations and development.

The one day course will include presentations on various topics including gas well de-liquification and troubleshooting and optimisation, along with practical design sessions using the commercially available PROSPER™ software.

The principal sponsor of this year’s EuALF will be Petroleum Technology Company (PTC), a specialist in oilfield well technology and provider of innovative technology for improved oil production.
