The 2012 SPE Middle East Unconventional Gas Conference and Exhibition (UGAS) will take place 23−25 January 2012 at the Beach Rotana Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE. After two successful runs, this is the third edition of the event and this year’s theme will be ‘Unlocking Unconventional Gas: New Energy in the Middle East’.

With ‘easy’ oil and gas on a steady decline, organisations are looking towards unconventional assets to serve energy needs. Waleed Refaay, Managing Director of SPE said “UGAS will bring together industry leaders to discuss and disseminate information on technology improvements and performance efficiencies at economically viable costs. This will be a good opportunity to network with experienced professionals in their field and gain insight from the technical sessions and exhibition available at the event.”

The conference programme includes three panel sessions titled ‘Setting the Scene’, ‘Unconventional Gas Development Challenges’, and ‘Unconventional Gas Expertise’, with representatives from Baker Hughes, BAPCO, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, Oman Gas Company, Packers Plus, Petrowell, Saudi Aramco, and Schlumberger. The event also offers 15 technical sessions to tackle the challenges of exploring, drilling, and producing unconventional gas, and a one-day training course on ‘Shale Gas Primer’. All attending delegates stand a chance to win an Apple iPad; the winner will be announced on the last day of the conference after the final panel session. The exhibition will run alongside the conference with companies showcasing the latest in technological equipment, solutions, and services to produce gas from unconventional resources.
