The price of oil pierced the $120-a-barrel mark on Tuesday after U.S. warnings to countries doing business in Iran reached new heights, and insurgents in Nigeria struck at Shell installations.

WTI oil traded at $120.93 early in the day after four dollars of gains in New York trading on Monday.
