London-based Kazakhstan player Roxi Petroleum has debuted in the Caspian Sea oil province with the purchase of two license areas, a tender for drilling services and a newly renovated office in Almaty.

The 121-square-kilometre Ravninnoe contract area lies in western Kazakhstan, 100 km north of the giant Tengiz field. The 167 sq. km Beibars contract areas sits astrid coastline 40 km south of the port of Aktau.

Design work is underway for the re-entry of up to four existing wells at Ravninnoe, and a tender has been issued for workover, re-entry and seismic. Well No. 8 was being “swabbed” when the company bought the license.

At Beibars, a seismic survey is in the cards, and a tender is being prepared for a range of services.

Roxi is evaluating six other prospects in Kazakhstan, and is considering a 50 percent stake in North Karamandybas, a license area 120 km east of Aktau.
