Norwegian oil company StatoilHydro has awarded Norway-based supplier-contractor Aker Solutions the 330-million-kroner ($49.4 million) job of delivering subsea production equipment of the high-pressure, high-temperature, or HPHT, type to the Kristin field.
The Norwegian government has made it mandatory for all bidders in upcoming licensing rounds to HPHT experience, a move that could curb the participation of once highly-sought-after oil-company newcomers to Norway. The best of Norwegian sub-sea look set to benefit.
Aker Solutions will deliver a complete work-over system for subsea trees at Kristin, including the engineering, procurement, manufacturing and testing. The work-over system allows well- intervention work on subsea wells.
It’s Aker Solutions third work-over system order for the Kristin field, where field temperatures range to 180 degrees Celsius and pressure reaches 15 000 pounds per square inch.
"The Kristin field has tested our engineers' skills numerous times over the years, and has helped push our technological boundaries," a statement said.
Kristin stands in 380 metres of water in the geologically tricky Norwegian Sea.
