Aker Solutions banks on Asia, opens $17M plant

Oilfield supplier-contractor Aker Solutions on Wednesday opening modernised and expanded manufacturing workshop for surface trees and wellheads in Batam, Indonesia, at the centre of a “rapidly growing” Asia-Pacific oil and gas market.

The $17 million expansion and upgrade at Batam boosts company capacity for surface wellheads and trees has by more than 50 percent. The space went from 4,200 square metres to 21 800 sq. m. with 11 new machines and a new warehouse.

The “surface trees and wellheads” are production equipment for onshore sites or shallow-water platforms. The “surface products” business is up 25 percent in recent years and more growth is seen.

“The Asia Pacific region is expected to be one of the fastest growing markets in the oil and gas industry in the coming years,” a statement said. “The long-term outlook for the subsea industry, as well as surface products, is very good.”
