The former North Sea well-services boss in one of North America’s largest rig companies has been appointed head of Houston’s Bermuda-based Nabors Industries Ltd.

New chairman and chief exec, Larry Heidt, presided over much North Sea business before today’s wealth of well-service players “crowded” the market.

Heidt, a 17-year company veteran, has been president of Nabours Drilling U.S.A, executive VP of Noble Drilling and chief exec of Peter Bawden Drilling, bought by Noble in 1988.

Nabors Well Services president Nick Petronio will now report to Heidt on the performance of the largest land-rig-owning company in the world. Nabors fields 763 land workover and well-service rigs in North America plus its offshore fleet of 39 platform rigs, 13 jack-ups and three barges working U.S. and international waters.

The company also makes top drives and drilling instrumentation and provides oilfield hauling, engineering, construction, logistics and maintenance.
