Nexus Engineering Group, LLC, celebrated the completion and successful commissioning of a $400 million project with BP-Husky Refining, LLC, during a ribbon cutting ceremony held at BP-Husky’s Toledo Refinery on March 7, 2013. The project, named the Reformer 3 Project, was praised by local politicians and BP and Husky management for its exceptional safety performance. Construction took about two years, 1.5 million hours of work, required the skills of over 1,500 different tradespeople, and was completed with no lost-time injuries. In addition to the stellar safety performance, the project hit its goals for quality, schedule and cost.
The project included the installation of a new Naphtha Reforming Unit and upgrades to the refinery’s electrical system. The reforming equipment, which produces high octane gasoline and hydrogen, will improve gasoline production efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and lower environmental emissions. The new reformer replaces three units built in the 1950s and 1960s. The electrical system modifications will improve the refinery’s supply reliability and capacity.
