Eneco has reached an agreement with the receivers of Econcern on the take-over of the core parts of Econcern. Eneco will purchase parts of the subsidiaries Evelop and Ecofys and a part of the bio mass activities. Parties will continue talks on the acquisition of Ecostream. This take-over will strengthen Eneco’s sustainability strategy. Eneco has the intention to transfer over 400 employees of Econcern. Parties do not make any statements with regard to the purchase price.

“We have been in discussion for over two years, coming from the same sustainability ambitions. I see this as a merger of the sustainable strengths of both businesses”, says chairman of Eneco’s Board of Management Jeroen de Haas, who welcomes this reinforcement.

Evelop develops and implements sustainable energy projects, such as wind farms at sea and on land. Evelop’s operational wind projects and project pipeline strongly contribute to the further expansion of Eneco’s sustainable energy production capacity.

Ecofys has an international top reputation in research and consultancy in the areas of energy saving and sustainable energy. The activities of Ecofys that are part of the take-over correspond to the existing strategy and the further development of Eneco’s expertise in the area of its ‘decentralised-sustainable-together strategy’, the development of sustainable forms of electricity production in cooperation with the customer. Ecofys will be positioned at arm’s length from Eneco in order to guarantee the continued independence of its advisory role in the future.

Eneco is also interested in acquiring the activities of Ecostream, about which both parties are still in discussion. Ecostream specialises in solar energy and develops and supplies related systems. Ecostream’s activities would enhance Eneco’s position in the area of solar energy by supplying and installing solar systems for both the BtoC and BtoB markets.
