Fairfield Energy has awarded a contract to Cyclotech Ltd for the trial of advanced hydrocyclone cleanup technology on the Dunlin platform. Since taking over operations in May 2008, Fairfield Energy has made significant progress in reducing the amounts of entrained oil within Dunlin’s produced water.
The new contract is part of a significant investment plan by Fairfield to reduce the Dunlin’s environmental impact whilst also extending the life of the asset.
Once verified in offshore field conditions, it is anticipated that full-scale deployment of the new hydrocyclones will enable a further 30% reduction of oil in produced water concentrations.
Although such a reduction in concentrations will be significant, the company also plans produced water reinjection (PWRI) trials within the next few months to also target reduction of produce water volumes.
