The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (MPE) requests Gassco to establish an arena to encourage and increase industrial utilisation of natural gas in Norway. Related to such request Gassco invites relevant industrial entities to a meeting to discuss the frames and contents of such arena.
The purpose of the arena is to explore the potential industrial utilisation of natural gas and to encourage and stimulate to increase communication between the upstream, midstream and downstream players in the natural gas value chain.
"The industrial entities may through this arena get access to knowledge and competency related to gas availability, gas quality and infrastructure developments", says Gassco’s executive vice president Thor Otto Lohne.
Any natural gas industry is established based on commercial business models and plans developed by commercial entities. It seems most appropriate for the arena to focus the discussions on maturing commercial industrial business development.
Gassco operates the majority of the gas infrastructure on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), including the gas processing plants at Kårstø and Kollsnes. The role as architect of the gas infrastructure development ensures a unique overview of the gas availability and future developments.
Gassco has established meeting places and relationships with all the licensees on the NCS, but no corresponding arena for dialogue with downstream players. The new arena for industrial use of natural gas will hence be an extension to the current mandate and scope of Gassco.
