Operator Gassco transported 99,8 billion standard cubic metres (scm) of Norwegian gas to European terminals in 2009 – up by roughly 2,3 billion scm from the 2008 gas year.

The 96,6 billion scm covers pipeline deliveries to Germany, Belgium, France and the UK. In addition come 1,4 billion scm of gas delivered for domestic Norwegian consumption and 1,8 billion scm for injection in fields on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS).

A central goal for Gassco is to run Norway’s integrated gas transport system with the highest possible regularity, and this averaged 99,6 per cent for the gas year which has now ended.

The processing plants at Kårstø and Kollsnes in western Norway are cornerstones in the transport network, with roughly 55 per cent of Norwegian gas exports passing through them.

“We’ve achieved high availability and regularity at the gas processing facilities we operate during the past year,” says Jan Hauge, executive vice president for product management at Gassco.

He says that the growth in Norwegian gas deliveries to Europe reflects increased production from the gas fields at the NCS and an increased demand for Norwegian gas.

Saturday 16 January the old record was beaten and 355,8 million scm Norwegian gas was delivered during the 24 hour gas day that runs from 6am until 6am.
