Gassco has initiated a project where the scope of work involves building a new receiving facility in Emden in Germany.
The Norsea Gas Terminal (NGT) in Emden began its operation in 1977 and receives a significant part of Norwegian gas deliveries to Germany. The NGT was designed with a lifetime of 25 years and the work with renewal of the NGT started in 2005 with feasibility- and concept selection studies. Earlier this year, the partners in the Gassled Joint Venture made a concept selection and approved the way forward for an extended lifetime for the NGT.
“The Gassled partners have approved our recommendation to build a new terminal rather than upgrading the existing facility” says Trond Nordal, vice president for gas terminals in Gassco.
The company C&BI Lummus B.V in the Netherlands has been awarded the pre-engineering (FEED) contract for the project.
“The first milestones have been reached according to our project plan and at the moment some 60 people are involved in maturing the project for final sanction early 2011”, says Nordal.
