HB Rentals has won a deal worth more than (GBP) £2million (USD $3.25million) to supply a dozen custom-build, high-specification units for global energy production and supply specialist E.ON Ruhrgas.

E.ON has bought the complex of HB Rentals’ standard-setting Safe Area A60-rated cabins outright, for installation on the Babbage platform as it develops the gas field of the same name in the UKCS Southern North Sea.

The units are capable of accommodating 32 men, across eight four-man sleeping quarters, and service modules include a galley, a medical room, a recreation area, locker room/lounge.

HB Rentals has delivered the units direct to the construction base in Wallsend, part of the famous Tyneside shipyards at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where the production platform for the Babbage field is currently being built.

A project management team from HB Rentals is assisting the main contractor with installation and hook-up of the modules, in advance of the platform being transported offshore.

Announcing the deal at Offshore Europe George Emslie, regional director for HB Rentals, says: “This is a major contract with one of the world’s best-known energy firms, in what is a significant developing gas field in the Southern North Sea, north-east of Great Yarmouth.

“E.On turned to us to ensure that the highest standard accommodation possible is integral to the construction of the Babbage platform – with full hazardous-area certification essential in what is a potentially dangerous environment.

“The complex of 12 cabins was constructed to E.On’s specifications and each is fully certified to DNV, SOLAS and IMO regulations – the highest in the industry - ensuring the safety and comfort of contractors working onsite.”

E.on, one of the world’s largest privately-owned energy firms, is a major gas producer as well as a developer of new technologies in renewable energy including offshore wind farms.

HB Rentals’ cabins are in use in every major oil and gas production region in the world, providing staff with safe-area working conditions. They can be configured for almost any kind of use including equipment rooms, laboratories, workstations and office facilities as well as sleeping accommodation.

George Emslie adds: “The complex is capable of expansion should further space be required on board the production platform – we will provide continued support to E.On throughout the project and will be prepared to provide further accommodation should it be required.”
