Statoil says that twelve of the 17 individuals who were at In Amenas when the attack started are now confirmed as being safe.
The situation remains unresolved for five Statoil employees, and neither the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor Statoil have confirmed information regarding their whereabouts.
On Wednesday morning Norwegian time Statoil was notified of a serious situation involving an attack on the In Amenas gas production facility in Algeria.
In Amenas is a wet gas field operated through a joint venture between Sonatrach, BP and Statoil.
Statoil cannot provide confirmed information about how many people are involved in the action overall.
Meanwhile, Statoil has still not received confirmed information about the five missing Statoil employees.
In consultation with the families of those affected as well as the authorities, Statoil has concluded that it is appropriate to publish the names of those missing now.
The five are:
Tore Bech – aged 58 years, resident in Bergen
Hans M. Bjone – aged 55 years, resident in Brandbu
Victor Sneberg – aged 56 years, resident in Sandnes
Thomas Snekkevik – aged 35 years, resident in Austrheim/Bergen
Alf Vik – aged 43 years, resident in Grimstad.
Efforts to establish clarity through search and rescue continues unabated.
“We stand together at this difficult time and are now thinking of the families’ deep uncertainty and despair. We ask that everyone show them consideration in this difficult situation. We will do what we can to support them,” says CEO Helge Lund.
