Oil spill off India's Mumbai from sunken ship

Indian maritime authorities and defence officials have announced on Monday that the oil flow from the sunken ship MT Rak has decreased.

According to a statement issued by the ministry of defence, the rate of oil spill has reduced to around 1 tonne per hour, as compared to 1.5-2 tonnes per hour Sunday.

Cargo vessel MT Rak, which sunk off the Mumbai harbour Thursday, August 04, 2011 had been leaking oil, since Saturday, August 06, 2011.

An aerial recce conducted Sunday morning indicated spread of oil up to seven nautical miles from the sunken vessel.

Some oil patches have also been sighted as far as 12 nautical miles from the sunken vessel.
