Ikon Science, the global geoscience technology company donated over $USD3m in software licences to Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia at a ceremony held at the Malaysian Petroleum Club in Kuala Lumpur on 21st November to mark the occasion.

RokDoc is the industry standard tool for the prediction of fluid type, reservoir properties and geopressure. Using RokDoc, students of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS will learn to predict fluids and lithology away from known measurements by building a consistent and quantified geological rock physics model. Using the latest technology is paramount to the PETRONAS strategy to continue to develop Malaysia’s skills base and connectivity in the global exploration community and bringing forward new thinking and high value skills to the region.

Michel Kemper Technology Director of Ikon Science, based in Kuala Lumpur said: "The donation of our innovative RokDoc software to Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS marks the next stage in our long-term commitment to bringing scientific quantitative interpretation to Malaysia. This cooperation will also contribute to an enhanced understanding of the potential oil and gas reserves in Malaysia and the wider Asia Pacific region."

The ceremony was held in the PETRONAS Towers at the Malaysian Petroleum Club. It was attended by 20 VIP delegates, including Dato' Wee Yiaw Hin, Executive Vice President Exploration and Production PETRONAS and Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Haji Kasim, Vice Chancellor of UTP together with Ikon Science CEO Martyn Millwood Hargrave and the staff from the local office, Ikon Science Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
