Thomas Thune Andersen will leave his position as CEO of Maersk Oil and partner in Firmaet A.P. Møller as of the end of August. New CEO of Maersk Oil will be Jakob Thomasen who recently has been head of exploration and business development in Maersk Oil. Furthermore, he will become a member of the Executive Board of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group.
Thomas Thune Andersen has been with the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group for 32 years, a partner since 2005 and for the last five years CEO of Maersk Oil.
“During recent years, Thomas Thune Andersen has led the process of focussing the oil exploration activities and opening Maersk Oil to the outside world. This has been achieved successfully and Thomas Thune Andersen will be leaving a company almost twice the size as when he took over. Thomas Thune Andersen was offered an alternative position in the Group, which he, however, declined. A decision I regret. We are now entering a new phase where exploration, field development and operating activities are top priorities and Jakob Thomasen has the right background for these activities”, says partner and Group CEO Nils S. Andersen.
Among others Jakob Thomasen has led the company’s largest development in Qatar, where the large project at the Al Shaheen Field is 80% complete, and as a geologist, Jakob Thomasen has the requirements for assessing and possibly leading the development of the finds Maersk Oil has made in Angola, the Gulf of Mexico and Great Britain.
Jakob Thomasen, 47, was head of Maersk Oil in Qatar from 2004 to 2009. As a geologist, Jakob Thomasen began his career in Maersk Oil in 1988. He has extensive operational and international experience within exploration and production combined with strong management skills.
The owners of Firmaet A.P. Møller will subsequently be Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller, Nils S. Andersen, Claus V. Hemmingsen, Eivind Kolding and Søren Skou.
The Executive Board will hereafter consist of Nils S. Andersen, Claus V. Hemmingsen, Eivind Kolding, Søren Skou and Jakob Thomasen.
