Aberdeen-based Maritime Assurance & Consulting Ltd (MAC) has enjoyed a successful first quarter in operation, having secured worldwide contracts totalling in excess of £200,000.

MAC, which was established at the start of 2011 by Graeme Reid – the former European Managing Director of Noble Denton Consultants Ltd – provides a comprehensive range of consultancy and support services to the worldwide marine, construction, drilling and floating production industries.

To date, MAC has secured significant work in each of its main business areas; marine assurance and consulting, engineering assurance and consulting, and dynamic positioning assurance and consulting.

The company, which had initially predicted first year turnover of around £650,000, has won contracts with a number of major operators and contracting companies in the oil and gas industry, including Centrica and Subsea 7.

Projects undertaken have seen MAC personnel providing their services to clients across the globe, including in Norway, Germany, France, Singapore, Australia and the Caribbean.

As well as reporting positive first quarter financial figures, MAC has also quickly expanded its workforce, more than doubling its employee numbers from four to nine – eight of whom are based in Aberdeen and one in Glasgow – and putting in place a number of associate consultants’ agreements.

Among the recent recruits to the MAC team is Engineering Manager, Peter Wilson, a naval architect with many years of hands-on consulting and engineering management experience with a number of organisations including Noble Denton, Global Maritime and Maersk Oil.

MAC Managing Director, Mr Reid, said: “I am thrilled with the opening quarter to this, our first year in operation. The business has exceeded all our early forecasts, and we have been busier than originally anticipated, which is particularly pleasing during what is historically a slow period for the industry.

“I believe that having great personnel in place has been at the root of the company’s success to date. The team have all settled into their roles very well and have worked hard to deliver high quality services to our clients.

“From our experiences so far it is clear that customers are looking for an alternative to the traditional consulting companies and prefer a more personal service based on trust, experienced resources and quality of delivery. As we move forward into the rest of 2011, therefore, we aim to continue strengthening our quickly-established reputation for delivering a high-end consulting service based on these principles, and will continue to seek to recruit the best in the business.”
