UAE-based Maritime Industrial Services Co. Ltd. Inc. (MIS) resumes full operations at its Sharjah Port Khalid-based yard. The company had temporarily shut down its operations last week due to a fire at a neighbouring factory.
MIS confirmed that there were no injuries in the incident but reported minor material damage with the loss of four peripheral porta-cabins located opposite the main area where the fire was ablaze. MIS’ main offices, yard and workshop all remained intact.
The fire started at the ERCO vegetable oil refining and storage facility which is located directly opposite MIS’ main entrance. In adherence with its safety precautionary measures, MIS shut down its yard on Saturday and Sunday but maintained in-house safety, fire and other support personnel to secure the facilities and to prevent the spread of the fire. In addition, MIS’ safety and fire teams supported the Civil Defence fire crews.
According to Peter Convery, MIS President, the clean up will take a bit of time but all MIS operations are back to normal today with electricity, IT and phone systems back online. “We’re pleased that MIS has emerged relatively unscathed from this incident. We’d like to thank the Civil Defence teams from across the UAE and the Sharjah Port Authority’s officials who acted quickly to contain the fire and minimize further damage, and our own personnel for their genuine caring, quick-thinking and response,” said Convery.
