The air base located in the western part of Afghanistan is the 12th Move One site in the country.
The expansion of Shindand Air Base by the US Forces began during the fall of 2010, with the twin aim of providing support to Regional Command West and to transform Shindand Air Base into the premier training base in Afghanistan. Move One’s new office within Shindand Air Base will assist these aims by providing full range logistics services.
U.S. Air Force’s 838th Air Expeditionary Advisory Group (AEAG) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers celebrated the completion of the perimeter in July and now, a year since work began, Shindand Air Base is three times larger than it was previously, while also boasting the second largest airfield in Afghanistan.
Work continues apace, as the new expansion area is to become the new living and working area for more than 3000 coalition forces and government contractors. The completely transformed base is now divided into three main areas. The first part has been allocated to the Afghan National Army (ANA) camp, while a large portion is dedicated to the US military. Finally, a sizeable Italian contingent is also occupying a portion of the base. The new Move One office is ideally located near the US military where most of the administrative tasks are coordinated. A large yard adjacent to the office is currently used for operations such as loading and unloading mission essential freight destined to the coalition forces. Moreover, with direct access to the flight line and work space by “India Ramp”, Move One personnel sustain the unmatched quality service not only in offloading the freight, but can also offer freight accountability as well as careful “break-down” of freight. The expertise gained from other installations in Afghanistan allows Move One to be the front runner with the new Air Base.
Move One can handle offloading of cargo planes such as the mighty Hercules, the Antonov-12, and last but not least, the Ilyushin-76, often referred to as the “Hilux of the sky”. ”Move One’s ability for on-base services is well known throughout Afghanistan, however our services have now gone from strength to strength by offering trucking services to and from Shindand, servicing any part of the country” said Zsolt Ormai, Move One’s Country Manager for Afghanistan.
“We have all the necessary assets for on base use, and we have direct access to mobile cranes and any trucking assets for off base transport and services” he adds.
“With three full time staff members employed on the site and imminent growth potential, Shindand base is a great opportunity to expand Move One’s reach within Afghanistan. We are fully equipped to handle inbound freight that our clients want to ship directly to Shindand. With many prime contractors also ramping up their current operations on base and planning to make this Airbase one of their main distribution hubs for Southern Afghanistan we can officially say, ‘we are ready!’ What differentiates Move One is our ability to service nearby FOB’s from this station such as Herat, Farah, Delaram and even offer distribution to smaller fire bases,” Zsolt concluded.
