Veson Nautical, the US-based developer of proven maritime software solutions and services, says that Neste Oil Corporation is fully operational on Veson’s Integrated Maritime Operations System (IMOS) to manage its fleet of 30 tankers. Veson’s IMOS now enables Neste’s Shipping Division to operate its large tanker fleet more efficiently and profitably, from the onset of the voyage to the financial tie-out.

Neste Shipping transports about 40 million tons of crude oil, oil products and chemicals annually; tonnage consists not only of crude oil, product and chemical tankers but also of two barge / pusher combinations and three tugboats. The operations are concentrated mainly on the Baltic, the North Sea and the North Atlantic region.

IMOS delivers a number of advantages to this large enterprise. The rich visual design of IMOS shortens training time for new staff getting accustomed to the system but most importantly, Neste now has a corporate wide, consolidated platform that provides access to crucial information easily and quickly. “The greatest benefit we have experienced is having an integrated system that handles chartering, operations and accounting,” explains Joakim Kärkkäinen, vice president of Neste Oil Corporation’s Shipping, Finance and IT Department.

A Smooth Installation Process

The software was installed alongside the company’s existing corporate financials system. Joakim Kärkkäinen explains that the installation process went extremely well: “Veson responded to all our needs and requirements; response time was excellent and we all worked hard to complete the installation on time. The project received a very high score in the end evaluation of the project which proves that the people involved -- both end-users and staff involved in the implementation -- felt that the project was a big success. I can confidently say that this implementation was the most successful I’ve ever seen.”

Neste Oil is currently evaluating IMOS Trading, Veson’s module that adds Forward Freight Agreements (FFA) functionality to its existing IMOS. “FFAs are an integral part of Neste’s Shipping Division’s business activities, and IMOS Trading will enable users to have a unified picture of all physical and paper trades,” says Joakim Kärkkäinen. “We are very pleased with the outcome of the project and look forward to continuing our close working relationship with Neste Oil” says John Veson, president of Veson Nautical.
