Leif-Arne Langøy - Chairman of the Board of Directors of DNV

Leif-Arne Langøy has been elected as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of DNV (Det Norske Veritas). Walter Qvam has been elected as the new Chairman of the DNV Council. In addition, Morten Ulstein has been elected Vice Chairman of the DNV Board. The elections took place at the Council meeting on Wednesday, 8 June.

Leif-Arne Langøy has been a member and Vice Chairman of DNV’s Board since 2010. He has an MSc from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration in Bergen. He has held a number of senior positions and directorships in the Aker system during the past few years and was the CEO of Aker ASA until 2009. He is also the Chairman of Sparebanken Møre, a director of Istad AS, and Vice Chairman of The Resource Group AS (TRG).

“It is with great respect that I assume the role of Chairman of DNV’s Board. This is a company with long traditions in the fields of classification and risk-management services, as well as in technology and innovation, with the shipping and oil and gas industries as its most important markets. I look forward to helping take the company further in the future,” says Leif-Arne Langøy.

Walter Qvam holds an MSc in Engineering from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (now the Norwegian University of Science and Technology). He was employed by DNV from 1980-1994 and has later been Deputy CEO of the Norwegian State Railways (NSB) and CEO and Chairman of the Board of Capgemini in Norway. He established the consulting company Bene Agere before taking over as CEO of Kongsberg Gruppen ASA in 2007.

“I look forward to taking over as Chairman of the DNV Council. DNV is a fantastic organisation that plays an important and valuable role in relation to safety and the environment worldwide,” says Mr Qvam.

DNV’s CEO, Henrik O. Madsen, is very positive about the election of such high calibre individuals, willing to commit their time to DNV and its governance. “Leif-Arne Langøy is an expert in his field; he has a considerable international network and knows the shipyard industry well. He also has a lot of experience of mergers and acquisitions. Walter Qvam knows DNV very well from the inside. He has worked for DNV for 14 years and has also been stationed abroad for us. Together, these two will play a key role in further developing DNV,” says Henrik O. Madsen.
