The ONS 2010 SME Innovation Award is presented to REELWELL
•for its research-based innovations.
•The Reelwell Drilling Method and Telemetry System
This innovative method facilitates the cost-effective drilling of both exploration and production wells targeted beyond conventional reach, and offers major improvements in safety and environmental protection.
Reelwell has worked continuously on these innovations for a number of years − initially as a one-man research-based company. Today the company has grown into a team with great ambitions following this year’s successful breakthrough into the market with its first commercial sale.
The ONS 2010 Innovation Award is presented to FMC Technologies
•for the development of its innovative well control system
•“Through Tubing Rotary Drilling - TTRD”
This innovative well control system permits the drilling of a sidetrack through an existing production well. It has vital importance for increased production from subsea wells and thus also for increased overall recovery.
The technology has already proved itself successful on the Norwegian shelf and has massive potential given the growing number of subsea wells globally.
The ONS 2010 Special Innovation Award
This special award is presented to a prominent energy sector individual or organisation for technical excellence and innovative capability. This year the award goes to:
ARNE SMEDAL,
founder and Board Chair at SEVAN MARINE ASA for his excellent research-based innovative work over many years.
Arne Smedal has been instrumental in the development of two major innovations of major importance to the petroleum sector. These are;
•The APL Loading Buoy System
and
•The Sevan Marine Circular Floater Concept
Arne Smedal’s innovations are based on research and technological development carried out in close cooperation between the research community and the industry, many of which have subsequently been successfully introduced to the market.
The resulting enterprises have been based on Smedal’s business awareness and good leadership and have grown from small entities to large and sound companies based in Norway, but with sales and subsidiaries abroad.
