Ophir Energy has appointed Mr Peter Thomas as its new Chief Financial Officer and as an Executive Director of the Company.

Peter Thomas has over 20 years' experience within the international oil and gas exploration and production industry. He began his career with KPMG in London, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1987 and became a specialist in the oil and gas sector. From 1991 to 2002, Mr Thomas worked for Enterprise Oil plc, holding senior finance positions as Group Financial Controller, Group Treasurer and Head of Planning.

He served as Chief Financial Officer of Hardman Resources Limited, the Australian oil exploration and production company with interests primarily in Africa, from 2005 until its acquisition in 2007 and subsequently as Finance Director at Stratic Energy Corporation, a Canadian oil and gas business, and briefly as Chief Financial Officer of Nexus Energy Limited in Australia. His experience in areas such as corporate finance and M&A, project finance and financial management of international joint ventures, including Africa, is very relevant to Ophir's portfolio.
