20th World Petroleum Congress-3

The 20th World Petroleum Congress awarded Sustainable Stand Awards to ORYX GTL and the Energy Institute for building and demonstrating the most sustainable stands.

ORYX GTL won the award in the category for stands above 200 square metres while The Energy Institute won in the category of stands below 200 square metres.

A panel of judges visited the participating stands on the first day of the exhibition to evaluate each stand. The judges included Mr. Saif Ali Al-Hajari, Chairman, Qatar Friends of the Environment; Ms. Nouf Al-Sulaiti, Head of the Planning & Development Office, and Head of the Safety and Risk Assessment Section; and Eng. Issa M. Al Mohannadi, Chairman of the Qatar Green Building Council, and CEO of Msheireb Properties.

Dr. Al Hajari said that the long-term vision of the initiative is to provide more recognition and accolades to companies, entrepreneurs and innovators who are able to demonstrate true innovation in the use of materials, techniques and sustainability concepts that ensure minimal impact on the environment.

The awards were presented to the winners by the Chairman of the 20th WPC Organizing Committee, Mr. Issa Shahin Al-Ghanim.

ORYX GTL's stunning stand design was achieved using recycled, reusable, or recyclable materials and its creative concept reflects how the company is dedicated to minimize environmental impact. It also reflects the Company’s broader commitment to entrenching greater environmental awareness and resource utilisation throughout the organisation, as articulated in its health, safety and environment (HSE) policy and its commitment to Zero Harm Operations.

ORYX GTL’s environmental initiatives are being driven by the company’s top executive management. The first project in the world to commercialise gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology, ORYX GTL is a seasoned environmental leader. Internally, it is spearheading a range of initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint, enhance sustainability and be a better corporate citizen locally (via community initiatives), regionally and internationally.

Included in this is a five-stage series of ‘go green’ initiatives being launched by ORYX GTL over the next five years. Currently, these include improving engineering processes to minimise their environmental impacts, as well as utilising volumes of waste water generated by GTL manufacturing processes, which is used to landscape Ras Laffan Industrial City.
