Petrobras' Facts and Data blog was granted the Gold Quill Award by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) as the best social media initiative in 2010. Petrobras' blog won the award for "Excellence," the most important of the awards. This is the first time a Brazilian blog gets an award from this prestigious U.S. corporate communications institution, which has 15 thousand professional members from 70 countries the world over.
The IABC's Gold Quill Award has been a global reference in the recognition of excellence in corporate communications for 37 years. The winners represent the best of the segment and are chosen after two rigorous evaluations carried out by a group of communications professionals from around the world. The Facts and Data blog competed in the "Communication Management," "Social Media" category, under the title "Facts & Data Blog: shifting the source-press relationship paradigm."
According to the IABC, the "Social Media" category includes new tool and practice developments that allow individuals and groups to collaborate and share knowledge and experiences online. These tools and practices are designed to engage audiences (internal or external) in dialogue, rather than just convey information in a single direction.
The awarding ceremony will be held on June 7, during IABC's International Conference in Toronto, Canada.
