FMC Technologies to supply subsea systems for Shell’s Perdido project-Spotlight

PRESENS AS reports the award of a frame agreement with FMC Technologies to supply pressure and temperature transmitters to their subsea production trees. The contract is estimated to be worth between 100 and 125 million NOK over five years, deliveries beginning in Q3 2008.

PRESENS released its new subsea pressure and temperature transmitter, the ASTERIX, at the Offshore Technology Conference, OTC2008, in Houston, USA in May.

“The selection of PRESENS as a supplier by FMC Technologies is a strategic milestone for PRESENS,” says Voula Terzoudi, Business Development Manager, Oil & Gas of PRESENS. “Since the first commercial installation in 1998, PRESENS has worked towards being a supplier of pressure transmitters to the oil & gas market. We have the right sensing technology and the required level of expertise in order to address high-end Subsea oil and gas sensor applications, and this frame agreement underlines our breakthrough in this market.”

The ASTERIX subsea production tree pT/TT transmitter has FS pressure range 0 to 1380 bar, a total accuracy better than ±0.025%FS and 1 year drift better than ±0.02%FS. The construction is extremely robust and resistant to shock and vibration. However, the most striking features are the transmitter’s size and weight. The ASTERIX has a total weight of approximately 6.5 kilos, which is a 70% reduction compared to other current solutions on the market.

Ms Terzoudi says, “The market has shown a lot of interest in this product. Thanks to PRESENS’ unique proprietary pressure sensing technology, together with its superior design capabilities and technology expertise for advanced pressure sensing solutions, we have created a path-breaking product that is cost-effective and enables simplified handling and safer installation. We look forward to a fruitful co-operation with FMC in the future and anticipate expanding the success we have experienced in the Subsea Oil and Gas market into new market segments together.”
