Scotland-based oilfield services company Reservoir Group (RG) has formed an alliance with Quest Coring. Headquartered in Canada, Quest will distribute its innovative and exclusive large bore wireline coring technology through the RG Geo division's extensive international network.

An increasing need for reliable, precise and insightful evaluation of formations - driven by exploration and development of unconventional reservoirs, in particular gas shale - has resulted in a growing demand for coring services. Quest's Quick CoreTM technology offers a new means for customers to obtain reliable and accurate core data while in most occurrences reducing coring time by a remarkable factor of 2 to 3 fold.

Reservoir Group CEO Pascal Bartette said of the new alliance: 'We were highly attracted by Quest's new technology which fits perfectly within RG Geo's product range. Quick CoreTM provides exploration companies with a unique opportunity to obtain a thorough physical evaluation of a reservoir with significantly reduced drilling down-time. For our clients, this will translate into substantial overall cost savings.

'The Quick CoreTM technology also has particular application to gas shale plays, where long coring intervals are essential to evaluate accurately the reservoir structure. Our clients will be able to make substantial savings using Quick CoreTM on their formation evaluation programmes, so we are delighted to be able to offer this service on a global scale.'

Quest CEO Doug Kinsella added: 'RG Geo's coring business is the ideal partner for us to distribute swiftly our Quick CoreTM technology worldwide. We intend to extend this alliance to new technologies currently in our development pipeline. For example, we will shortly launch a pressure-retaining coring system as a further development of our Quick CoreTM range.

'Additionally, Reservoir Group itself has a range of exclusive technologies that we are confident will be attractive to our Canadian clients. We see this is an ideal match for all stakeholders as well as being of immense benefit to the industry.'
