BG Group has sized up its Jordbær (Strawberry) field in the North Sea offshore Norway with a an appraisal well which has officials believing the field contains 82 million barrels of oil equivalent.
The Bredford Dolphin semi-submersible drill rig is wrapping up the drilling of well 34/3-1 A on the 34/3-1 S oil discovery. The rig found the oil-water mark after drilling 3,974 metres below the seabed.
BG Group operates “Strawberry” with a 45 percent stake. Partners in the license are Japan’s Idemitsu (25 percent), Stavanger’s Revus (20 percent) and Germany’s RWE Dea (10 percent).
The find was one of the bigger finds off Norway this year, where exploration continues to turn up "small to medium" finds. With oil produciton in decline off the Nordic country, hope of finding an "elephant" has faded, and "oil's offshore centre" appears to have shifted to Brazil after the giant Tupi find.
