Gaz de France intends to develop salt caverns into gas storage sites in the northwest of England at Stublach, it was learned Tuesday.
Some 400 million cubic metres of natural gas could be stored at the €500-million sites, news agency Reuters reported the company as saying.
The storage is in-line with the plans and holding of other companies with U.K. operations, including Statoil and OMV of Austria. Some gas-price watchers hint the United Kingdom’s new storage and pipeline projects, like the BBL and Langeled, could bring gas prices down in the medium-term.
