Three North Star Shipping seafarers have been awarded one of the highest accolades granted to serving seamen for their services to the industry.
Captain Davie Morris and chief engineers Dennis Talbot and Alistair Nangle have been awarded Merchant Navy Medals and were invited to join other recipients of the medal at a prestigious event in London to celebrate their achievements.
Mr Talbot, chief engineer of offshore platform supply vessel, the Grampian Explorer, was awarded the medal last year (2011) for his services to shipping and the training of engineer cadets. He has been with North Star since 2003 and was also nominated by his crew.
Mr Morris, master of emergency response and rescue vessel (ERRV) the Grampian Corsair, was decorated with the medal for his services to the offshore oil industry for safety and delivery of best practice.
Nominated by his crew, Captain Morris claimed his medal at a glittering ceremony held in London in 2010 and was one of only a handful of other British Merchant seafarers to be awarded the honour. He has been with North Star Shipping for over a decade.
Mr Nangle, who was chief engineer on board the Grampian Supporter at the time but has moved to the Grampian Cavalier, was awarded the medal for his services to the Merchant Navy and for safety and delivery of best practice. His son was given the honour of carrying one of the flags into the ceremony when his father, who has been with North Star since 1997, collected his Merchant Navy Medal.
