The number is still down from the record year of 2004, when 13.6 MM t were produced offshore, according to national compiler, Statistics Norway. The agency cooperated with the Norwegian Pollution Control Authority to come up with the numbers on its way to compiling a national inventory of greenhouse gases, which was published Tuesday.
Norwegian emissions entered the national debate again recently when StatoilHydro warned its two Hammerfest LNG flares would emit pollutants longer than expected due to start-up difficulties at the plant, which includes turbines.
Oil-gas, the process industry and transport accounted for 82 percent of all Norway’s emissions of 53.5 MM t/y.
