Calgary-based shale gas developer Questerre Energy Corp. said Wednesday its first two horizontal wells through the “fertile” Lowlands of Canada’s French province of Quebec were flowing gas after being “fracked”.
The deliberate “fracturing” of the St. Francois du Lac and St. Louis de Richelieu wells along the rich St. Lawrence area produced “burnable gas” and frac fluids.
Tubing is being run into the well for a long flow test, but weeks will be needed to “clean” the wells of debree.
“(The wells) represent a critical step in our technical understanding of the Quebec shales and we are obviously pleased with how well the frac operations were carried out,” a statement said.
Just across the Quebec border in the United States, minerals management officials are working on a reworking of licensing arrangements for a vast stepping-up of production from shale rock.

Oil and gas from shale formations are very significant portion of hydrocarbon reserves. Every successful case of oil and gas recovery from shale must be carefully considered. Two points are important to extract oil and gas from "fertile" shale: understanding the distribution of shaly fracturing systems and choosing the technology. Cleang wells of debree shows that the fracturing zone has been detected. It is very interesting to know the details of operations and results
