Norwegian energy champion StatoilHydro said Thursday it will overhaul 26 oil and gas installations in 2008, a process that’ll cut production 10.4 million barrels this year, starting with 3.9 MM bbls in the second quarter.

The biggest re-do will affect the Norne field, where the Norne floating production storage and offloading vessel — the most northerly placed FPSO in the world — will have its production turret replaced, an operation never before done at sea.

The new swivel will be fitted with two additional production risers for more gas and light oil from the Alve field, due on-stream later this year.

The 90-day operation will also fit a high-voltage system to ward off frozen particles from the Alve field feeder pipeline and open the way for the advent of subsea pumps.

Considerable maintenance work and modifications will be performed on the Statfjord C and Snorre A platforms as part of the Statfjord Late Life and Snorre Redevelopment Projects.

Also the Kvitebjørn and Kristin platforms will conduct capacity upgrading work.

Maintenance and necessary inspections will be performed on all installations where scheduled shutdowns take place.

A total of 270,000 man-hours will be performed offshore during the turnarounds. The work will be performed by employees both in StatoilHydro and the supply companies along the coast.

The following platforms and facilities will be affected: Statfjord C, Snorre B, Gullfaks A, Gullfaks B, Brage, Visund, Njord, Melkøya LNG, Norne, Troll B, Troll C, Huldra, Snorre A, Troll A, Kvitebjørn, Heimdal, Vale, Vilje, Sleipner A, Sleipner B & T, Glitne, Åsgard B, Kristin and Mongstad.
