Tullow Oil updates Africa activities

Tullow Oil has an oil discovery at the Kigogle 1 well in the Butiaba region of Block 2 in Uganda, the company has announced, adding it was found in the shallowest geology to date in the East African country.

The well encountered two oil zones with a net pay 10 metres, and testing has proved light sweet oil in reservoirs 400 metres below the earth’s surface.

According to Tullow, Kigogle 1 was the third test on the Victoria Nile delta play in the Lake Albert Rift Basin. The find is said to upgrade other area prospects due for drilling in 2009.

It was the fifth recent discovery in the Butiaba region in as many months and “an excellent record of geological success and operational efficiency”, a statement said.
