OAO Tatneft

At present Tatneft is testing TK-34P drill pipes with an inner polymer coating with high strength properties manufactured by Tuboscope Vetco.

The polymer coating has been applied at the Bugulma Mechanical Plant of OAO TATNEFT (BMZ), where within a short time period a technology and application procedures have been developed and re-equipment works have been carried out with adding necessary equipment.

Three sets of drilling tools are being tested: one set of TBPK-127 drill pipes with the coating thickness of 0.25-0.3 mm and two combined sets of TBPN-127.

The effect of the polymer coated drill pipes application is planned to be obtained through increasing the service life of pipes, increasing their wear resistance, reducing pipe rejection ratio and reducing the cost of electricity through decreasing hydraulic losses in the drill pipes. Further on, in the framework of pilot operations the work will be performed on studying the current state and the extent of the drill pipes wear. Analysis of the results received will allow making an accurate economic assessment of the effectiveness of the internally coated pipes application.

As of now, 13 wells have been drilled with an average failure free operation over 6 thousand meters for each set of drill pipes with a polymer coating maintained in good condition.
