AccessESP, provider of rigless electric submersible pump (ESP) conveyance solutions for the worldwide oil industry, has successfully retrieved and replaced an existing ESP for a major operator on the Alaskan North Slope using a standard slickline unit.

The well, which had been in production for more than 500 days, experienced a significant drop in pump production rate as the pump impellers began to show signs of erosion due to solids production. In October 2015, the client decided to retrieve the existing ESP and deploy a new AccessESP retrievable assembly using a standard slickline unit. The entire project was completed within days of mobilising the slickline unit.

“Conventional ESPs typically require operators to mobilize a workover rig to replace the pump,” says David Malone, chief executive officer, AccessESP. “But by replacing the AccessESP retrievable assembly using a standard slickline unit, we helped to save the client significant time and money compared to conventional ESP methods. It is our goal to provide practical and unique solutions that maximize our clients’ production, and this successful use of a standard slickline unit not only proves the reliability of our AccessESP conveyance system but also provides an industry-wide alternative for retrieving and deploying ESPs.”
