German headquartered manufacturer of drilling rigs and oilfield equipment, Bentec, which is a subsidiary of KCA Deutag, has announced that it has signed a new contract with Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG, Polish Oil and Gas Company) to supply a new build 2,000 HP drilling rig, with a hook load capacity of 500 tonnes.

The high performance land rig will be manufactured at Bentec’s production facilities in Bad Bentheim and will incorporate the latest pipe handling solutions, a remote controlled Iron Roughneck, and Hydraulic Catwalk and Rig Walking Systems. The rig is scheduled to start operating in Poland later this year, with delivery to PGNiG scheduled for the Autumn.

In addition to the rig delivery scope, the contract includes extensive pre-operations crew training and full on site start up support.

Commenting on the contract award Dirk Schulze, CEO of Bentec says, “Bentec manufactures customised innovative drilling rigs which have a strong focus on performance and safety, whilst at the same time reducing our customers’ total cost of ownership. We are delighted that PGNiG has recognised the value of our offering. This is the second order Bentec has received from the PGNiG group in recent years, and we are very much looking forward to delivering the new rig later this year.”

Listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo is the leader in the Polish natural gas market and one of the largest companies in Poland. In addition to Poland, PGNiG carries out exploration and production activities in Norway and Pakistan. The company intends to increase output of hydrocarbons by ca. 40% by 2022.
