Victaulic unveils coupling

Victaulic, the manufacturer of mechanical pipe joining systems, has introduced the Style 296A coupling for fibreglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) pipe. The coupling offers much more efficient installation than the alternative methods of butt-and-wrap and adhesive bell-and-spigot pipe joints, and is ideal for industrial applications such as fly ash, slurry systems, cooling water, waste water, condensate, mild acids/chemicals, oil lines and drainage systems.

The Style 296A is a revolutionary new technology for joining FRP piping. The coupling engages into pre-manufactured patent pending Advanced Groove System (AGS) grooved built-up FRP pipe ends to form a secure, rigid pipe joint for pressures up to

150 psi/1035 kPa. No additional pipe supports are needed.

The FRP pipe coupling offers fast and hassle-free installation. The coupling can be installed anytime, anywhere and in any weather condition, which prevents unnecessary delays in pipe installation due to inclement weather. Unlike joints employing epoxies and adhesives, the Style 296A does not require cure time or pipe flow inspection, and no heating blankets or tents are needed for installation during poor weather. Furthermore, no special tools are required to install the couplings.

The Style 296A offers a more reliable installation than adhesive bell-and-spigot joints. The joint is not subject to epoxy build-up that can alter or restrict the flow of material within the pipe. In addition, the coupling’s FlushSeal gasket features a centre lip that positions between the pipe ends to ensure a smooth flow path.

The coupling also allows for quick and simple piping system maintenance. Unlike other methods of joining FRP pipe, the Style 296A provides a union at every joint and can be removed for access to the system and replaced once maintenance is complete, resulting in decreased system downtime.

The Style 296A is available in 1-12 inch (25-300 mm) sizes. The coupling’s housings are constructed of aluminum to reduce weight and provide corrosion resistance. Anodized, epoxy-coated or powder-coated housings are options. The FlushSeal gaskets are available in Grade “E” EPDM, Grade “S” Nitrile or Grade “O” Fluoroelastomer. AGS-grooved built-up FRP pipe is available from a variety of FRP pipe manufacturers.
