Norway-based semisubmersible housing supplier Prosafe has had its contracted accommodations work with national oil company Pemex shortened and brought forward, although company bosses say there’s every sign that the Mexican market is strong.
“Multiple tenders for short and long-term contracts (offshore Mexico) are expected to be received within the next few months,” a company communiqué said Monday.
The statement said the company was “very optimistic” Mexico and other regions would provide opportunity for the contracted Safe Concordia and other floating housing for offshore development, planning and modifications work.
The current short-term contract for the Safe Concordia with Interpetroleum/Pemex is now to be completed in early October 2009 instead of late December 2009 as had been planned.
Without new work filling in the space, the company will see $6.6 million less in revenue from its Pemex work this year, but Prosafe operating profit in 2008 reached $232 million and competition is scarce. Prosafe was up 2.5 percent in Oslo despite the news of a contract moved.
