A host of Energy experts are gathering in Aberdeen on 7th June to discuss vital issues surrounding the use of ‘smart’ technologies in the Oil & Gas industry.

Organised by The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section, ‘Smart Energy 2011’ aims to examine how operators of all sizes are applying technology to maximise return from their investment when it comes to the management of oil and gas fields.

David Liddle, Strategic Technology Director at ITF, is also the Program Chair for SPE Aberdeen and will give a presentation on ‘nurturing emerging technologies for their implementation’ at the one day seminar and exhibition being held at the Mercure Ardoe House Hotel, Aberdeen. Major industry players such as Shell, BP, Total and Schlumberger will be in attendance.

Presentations on the day will cover a range of topics including how to deliver a return on investment by applying technology and the expertise and influence of data quality on work flows and decision making in well delivery.

SPE Smart Energy Chairman Anderson Foster said: “Aberdeen has been at the forefront of Smart Oilfield development. This event will showcase how Operators have overcome challenges to create value in mature fields and the potential of the industry to deliver effective solutions. Simultaneously, the focus on Health Safety and Environmental footprint has never been greater.

“Smart Energy is about using people, expertise and technology in ‘intelligent’ ways and in the past decade, the global Oil & Gas industry has invested heavily in ‘intelligent’ or ‘smart’ technologies. These technologies were previously viewed as emerging, but are now considered as routine applications to new projects.”

The seminar also includes presentations from Shell, BP, Total E&P UK Limited, Schlumberger, IHSCera and Apache North Sea.
