A third generation of Norway’s Royal Family will make its mark on ONS when Crown Prince Håkon Magnus performs the official opening of the 2006 event in Stavanger on 22 August. He follows in the footsteps of his father, King Harald, who has opened the show on a number of previous occasions both as Crown Prince and as monarch, and his grandfather, King Olav. His mother, Queen Sonja, has also performed the official opening. King Harald recently renewed his long-standing role as royal patron of ONS.
"This support has been and remains very important for us," says Kjell Ursin-Smith, managing director of the ONS Foundation. "We are proud of His Majesty’s involvement on our behalf."
He is now looking forward to welcoming the Crown Prince to ONS 2006. "This will be very exciting. We feel His Royal Highness is an excellent representative for Norway, who has made his mark in a number of areas internationally with clear and wise opinions."
Mr Ursin-Smith also believes that this year’s main theme for ONS 2006, which is bridging the energy gap, will be of interest to Crown Prince Håkon Magnus.
"This is one of the most important challenges we face internationally, and essential for success in the fight against poverty – a subject close to His Royal Highness’ heart."
During his visit to ONS, the Crown Prince will first make a guided tour of the exhibition with the traditional visits to selected stands. He will then officially open the conference.
"I think this will be an interesting experience for His Royal Highness, and an opportunity to become better acquainted with representatives of Norway’s most important industry," says Mr Ursin-Smith.
