HM King Harald V of Norway has decided to continue serving as royal patron of ONS for a further five years, thereby maintaining a connection which dates back to the first event in 1974.
Since ONS began almost 32 years ago, His Majesty first as Crown Prince and then as King has visited almost every show and performed the official opening.
He carried out this duty at the biennial Stavanger exhibition and conference as recently as 2004, when he was accompanied by HM Queen Sonja.
"We are both proud and extremely pleased that His Majesty is continuing to serve as our royal patron," says Kjell Ursin-Smith, managing director of the ONS Foundation.
"It’s an inspiration to us in our work to ensure that ONS maintains its position as a leading meeting place for the world oil and gas industry in quality terms.
"I also regard this involvement by the King of Norway as an acknowledgement of the significant role which the petroleum sector plays for our country."
