TechInvent and Island Offshore/Centrica were announced winners of the ONS 2016 Innovation Awards, at the Innovation Awards Ceremony Tuesday 30 August.

TechInvent was selected winner of the SME Innovation Award, (for small and medium-sized enterprises), for the FluidCom™ technology. FluidCom™ chemical injection valve and metering controller is a fully automated, simple and reliable device equipped with integrated autonomous valve control, continuous flow metering and self-cleaning functionality.

The unique design of FluidCom™ valves includes minimal mechanical moving parts and is proven to provide operators with an accurate, reliable solution to control chemical injection applications with no regular maintenance required. The FluidCom application is multipoint chemical injection using a single-unit device per injection point, individual integrated flow control, flow metering, local and remote operation, wired & wireless HART communication.

Island Offshore and Centrica were selected winners of the Innovation Award, (for large companies), for the innovative system Riser-less coil tubing drilling. Island Offshore have successfully drilled four wells with the innovative riser-less coil tubing (CT) system. This is the first time ever riserless CT-operations have been performed. Three wells were drilled for Statens Vegvesen (the Norwegian state highway authority) in 2014 as part of investigations of geology for a future subsea-tunnel, and the concept was thereby proven.

Centrica E&P Norway found this very interesting and decided to use same system when checking for shallow gas in the seabed above their Butch-field in the southern part of the Norwegian Continental Shelf. This operation was performed in 2015, and was a new success. Next step will be to adopt the system to do heavy intervention with CT in subsea wells.

Visit Centrica in Hall 2, stand 240, to hear all about the successful riserless CT-operations.
