Albacom, a Dundee-based technology company, has relaunched its Surface Technology division after a GBP 250,000 investment, which was supported by Scottish Enterprise.

The Surface Engineering and Machining division expands Albacom’s capabilities in the oil and gas sector and allows the company to offer customers a fully integrated service and turnkey solutions. Albacom has invested significantly in diverse manufacturing, repair and maintenance technology and recruited four new members of staff to support the division’s development.

Commenting on the company’s expansion, Albacom CEO Jim Davidson, says, “Diversification is key to Albacom’s growth strategy and this divisional expansion is crucial for us to build upon our capabilities in the oil and gas market. Work is already underway with our first major oil and gas service company and we’re excited to further develop the services we can offer in this area.”

The past year has seen significant growth and market expansion for Albacom, with the launch of the company’s new Lifting Services and Motor Rewinding divisions and a further defence sector contract win in India.

Davidson continues, “In the past year, our workforce has increased from 17 members of staff to 23 and I’m delighted that we are in a position to continue recruiting locally, during what has been a very challenging time for many businesses. We have recruited a divisional Supervisor alongside three machinists who have significant oil and gas experience and will play key roles in our expansion moving forward.”

“We are continually evolving and diversifying into new markets, whilst ensuring that Albacom is best positioned for the anticipated upturn throughout the industry. It’s important that we can provide a fully integrated service for our customers, and this expansion demonstrates how our specialist products and service offering can provide optimum solutions across a variety of disciplines and markets,” he adds.

David Rennie, International Sector Head of Oil and Gas at Scottish Enterprise, says, “Today’s announcement is great news for Albacom as it looks to grow its business both at home and overseas. Our contribution will help the company maximise opportunities in the oil and gas sector as well as support the creation of four, very welcomed, new jobs. I wish them every success as they embark on this new journey.”
